What’s the meaning of Man in the fluid and uncertain world of today? For the new winter issue of Sleek, we go into the question of masculinity in its many forms and expressions, presenting a curated portfolio of art and fashion investigations which pull apart the male of the species and put him back together again in a variety of forms. Look out for photographer Matt Lambert’s studies on “Intimacy”, an interview with Casey Legler (the first of her gender to be signed as a male model) and an extensive feature on Norwegian artist Bjarne Melgaard’s captivating “Ignorant Transparencies” installation whose big pink feline graces our art cover. There’s Celina Plag’s persuasive essay on the emerging “Girlfriend Look” for guys, and gender-bending, man-expanding fashion from Thomas Lohr and Christian Stemmler, Amanda Camenisch and Lorenzo Posocco, Ilaria Orsini and Isabelle Thiry, and Ben Lamberty and Tu Anh Ngo.

Plus, this issue of Sleek offers superlative contemporary content including a wide-ranging interview with John Baldessari and a gallery of his most recent works, Swiss photographic maestro Walter Pfeiffer, Italy’s Francesco Clemente and Denmark’s Freya Dalsjö, along with studio visits to artist in Berlin, Prague, Vienna and Leipzig, plus a special go-see with knitwear radicals Sibling in London.
Lastly, in our Book section this issue, we present “Resistance: Art’s Strategies Against the Bubble,” in which Jeni Fulton digs through a range of art and artists carving out oppositions to contemporary spectacularisation and the new excesses of the art market.
